Community Life
People are what make our town an incredible place. We are a diverse community with a wide array of backgrounds, experiences, interests, and necessities. But we all have one thing in common: and we proudly call it Shildon..

Here at the Town Team we have some little helpers that get involved in lots of our community activities. Recently our young people were recognised by our local police force for the work they do in the town and awarded a local hero certificate and sweets kindly donated by Shildon Alive. How cool is that!
Success for Shildon Town Team at launch event
Back in September Shildon Town Team had their official launch at an event in the Town Square, which was extremely well received by all that came.
"It was a delight to meet the people that make up our wonderful town and listen directly to opinions on what they would like to see from the Town Team as we grow. We heard lots about how people would like to see more family activities and litter picks and it was fabulous to hear so many wanting to find out how to get involved in what we do!"
"We also chatted a lot to some of the young people from the community who were keen to let us know what they wanted from the town and to hear what they most liked about living in Shildon".
"It was a great opportunity for the Town Team to spread the word on what we are trying to achieve and how we are seeking to build community engagement by putting the heart back into the town and doing what we can to make us all feel proud to live in Shildon".
During the event the Town Team asked those attending to complete a short questionnaire offering their views and were overwhelmed by the amount of people that took the time to do this. Those that did complete the questionnaire were also added to a draw where a winner would be chosen at random to receive a meal for two at Shildon Civic Hall. The draw has taken place and the lucky winner has been contacted. All views and comments from the completed questionnaire will be discussed at their next meeting later this month.
"The Town Team have so much planned for the coming months and we can't wait to share this all with you, remember to keep an eye out on our social media page for all upcoming events and activities happening in the town."

Halloween Litter Pick
This October saw our monthly community meet up and clean up litter pick, where this time we were not only joined by additional new helpers but also the police, who walked around the area and streets surrounding Shildon Railway Institute.

The litter pick saw the teams collect over 14 bags of rubbish from local streets and back alley ways and we even cleaned out some of the back yards of empty properties!
We would like to extend a huge thanks to Shildon Railway Institute and their support of free refreshments and a warm place to sit afterwards. Their hospitality was greatly appreciated! We would also like to thank the police for assisting us with the litter pick. Please keep an eye out on our Facebook page for future litter pick dates.
